We are running a Scout Expedition Camp on the weekend of 18-19 November. We’ll be based overnight at Meldon Village Hall. This is for Scouts to complete the Expedition Challenge badge, using the navigation and expedition skills we’ll be teaching them this term. The expedition has to be completed over two days and Scouts will be participating in the planning and navigation of the expedition as well as preparing the evening meal. The cost is £15 per person, including accommodation, cooked dinner and breakfast.
This area of Dartmoor provides wonderful walking. However, the emphasis will be on teaching and assessing navigation skills, not walking our Scouts into the ground or miles onto the open moor where conditions can be hazardous. We will therefore be walking in safe areas, with easy escape routes in the event of any accidents, and will limit ourselves to no more than approx 4-5 miles per day. This should be well within the capabilities of our Scouts. The route will be planned and checked on the ground in advance and leaders will ensure the group is equipped to deal with any emergencies.
Nights Away form (including kit list) can be downloaded below.
Please book your place by returning your completed Nights Away form and payment to leaders by 7 November.
