Last year, when we negotiated our revised hall hire fees, we secured a substantial discount on the basis that the Scout Group would contribute to local events/activities when required. We have been asked to support the Bridestowe Ram Roast at the Sporting Green on Sat 22 July. We will need the support of parents and older Cubs/Scouts to achieve this. Although leaders are willing to help coordinate our input, this cannot all fall on leaders, as we have more than enough to do planning and running your weekly activities. Please therefore read this and let us know ASAP if you are able to help. It’s important that we have firm numbers to give the organisers so please come back to us with a firm commitment to help with something specific. We’ve set out below what we’ve been asked to provide, so there are several different ways you can help:
- From 9am: Help setting up site, gazebos, tables, chairs, etc.
- From 1.30pm: Volunteers to run a duck racing fundraising activity in the river.
- 5pm onwards: Help taking down gazebos, clearing tables/chairs, loading to truck/unloading at hall.
- Optional from 1.30pm: Volunteers to run a stall with games etc to raise funds for our Group.
At the AGM, there was a lot of verbal support for helping with one-off activities like this, and everyone understood and accepted that leaders cannot be expected to run fundraising and community activities on top of everything else we do. Please get together, talk to your friends, form a small group and set aside a few hours to help support our Group. There will be lots going on and it should be a lot of fun, and it will be easy if there are plenty of volunteers to share the work. Thanks.
