Scouts are invited to join us for a two day Expedition Challenge camp 28-29 September 2019. The Expedition Challenge is a key part of the Scout programme and an essential component of the Chief Scout Gold award. It comprises an expedition undertaken over two days.

Scouts must demonstrate an understanding of basic navigation and safety. We introduced some of these skills during last term’s programme, but we’ll be covering these in detail and putting them into practice over this weekend camp.

The ability to walk safely and with confidence in wild and semi-wild areas is a key life skill and one that many adults today sadly lack. Don’t let your children join the hopeless masses blundering about our national parks without a clue and nothing but a dying mobile phone to keep them safe!

Based at Lydford cricket pavilion, we’ll be tackling two circular walks on the western fringes of Dartmoor, an area that provides wonderful walking and plenty of opportunities to practise navigation skills and techniques.

The routes we’ll be walking have been carefully planned to ensure they are within everyone’s capability and fully checked and assessed on the ground to ensure the group remains safe and easily accessible in the event of an emergency.

On the Saturday evening we’ll be making a hot cooked meal and chilling out with a hot drink and a movie. We encourage all Scouts who have not yet completed their Expedition Challenge to attend, as we only run this activity every 2-3 years.
